Library / Media Center
We believe that the Dalian American International School Library/Media Center is the information center of the school and plays an integral part in fostering the development of global citizens for the future. In accordance with the ALA standards, the library/media center provides resources and learning activities that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, and social and cultural perspectives. It supports intellectual freedom and access to information as prerequisites to effective and responsible citizenship.
The library media program ensures that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The librarian empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information (AASL, 2009).
The middle/high school (MS/HS) library is in room #207 and the elementary school (ES) library is on the first floor of DAIS in the former Community Area. Patrons are welcome to use library resources from either library regardless of their grade level.
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.
The collection consists of approximately 9,000 fiction and nonfiction books, 100 reference sources, a selection of periodicals, VHS and DVD videos, sound recordings, and professional resources. Reference materials are for use in the library only and may not be checked out. The use of audiovisual materials is restricted to teachers. Students and families may check-out Read-Alouds.
The library maintains one working TV Combo for use in the library.
Patrons may check out materials for 1 – 2 week periods (depending on patron type).
